New design for upside down House, Co Wexford at sketch scheme stage
Thursday, July 08, 2010

Doyle+ Partners worked with the site by pushing the lower part of the house into the hill, to ground it in the landscape. The house is designed with living space, kitchen/dining/living rooms on the first floor to take advantage of natural light and views and takes advantage for solar gain as the living space gets natural light all day. The bedrooms etc are on ground floor with allows it to use the natural warmth of the earth to help heat the house. The open sun terrace is orientated to receive sun from midday right through to late evening.

Friday, March 12, 2010

Doyle and Partners are starting a new one off house in Co Wexford which we hope to get to passive house or A1 rated standard. Most houses in Ireland at the moment are at an E or F rated standard. Under the new building regulations part L introduced in 2006 substantial reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions are required

Sustainable Feature to be included in house :

  • Rainwater harvesting
  • LED Lighting
  • Ecocem cement
  • Really low U-Values through good insulation
  • Air tightness
  • Wood pellet boiler
  • Solar panels
  • Solar gain living area south facing
  • Sustainably resourced timber
